We’re breaking the silos on material knowledge.
Say hello to crowdsourcing by professionals.
Welcome to the UCSF MATTER library
Breaking the Silos
Historically, our information on sustainable materials has been siloed in projects: once a project is complete, material information is archived and left to expire. New project teams must then start all over again.
Living Data
To continuously improve the sustainability of our projects, our material data needs to be living. Every project should serve to keep our shared knowledge up-to-date. Every project needs to stand on the shoulders of those that came before.
Professional Crowdsourcing
UCSF uses MATTER to professionally ‘crowdsource’ material information from our projects into a shared library. Design firms and consultants are recommended to get their own licenses to connect to the UCSF MATTER library. The approach is designed to help save time and resources researching and specifying materials for UCSF projects, while raising the bar for all.

Crowd Sourcing Community for Professionals
We’ve set up a supporting community of peers on LinkedIn for MATTER users working on UCSF projects.

The Data Entry Guide helps users learn how to create and/or edit materials efficiently.
About MATTER
MATTER is part of the tools developed by and for the RESET Standard. It is used by companies to manage performance data on building materials, as well as calculate the embodied impact of projects across health, circularity and carbon.
